Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) is a type of skin cancer that originates from damaged cells in the top layer of the skin. It is the most common type of skin cancer and is often seen in areas that receive the most sun exposure like the head and neck. It can also be seen on the hands, arms, chest, legs, and back. Occasionally it is seen on non-sun exposed areas as well.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)
Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) is a type of non-melanoma skin cancer that originates from damaged cells in the top layer of the skin. It is the second most common type of skin cancer and is frequently seen on areas that receive the most sun exposure such as the ears, lips, face, arms, and legs. SCC can be aggressive and spread to other parts of the body so early diagnosis and treatment is important.
Melanoma
Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that originates from the pigment producing cells of the skin. Melanoma is the least common but also most dangerous type of skin cancer. It is usually seen on sun exposed areas like the legs or back, but it can also be seen in non-sun exposed areas and can occur anywhere on the body. Melanoma often appears like a new mole or it can begin from an existing mole. If left untreated, melanoma will grow deep into the skin and has the potential to spread to other parts of the body and become fatal. If detected early it is almost always curable.
